The Justice League and its Shadow League
Quick thought for the DCU: It would be cool if someone developed a "counter League," where a team was assembled to mirror the JLA. Example — Captain Marvel (Superman), Captain Atom (Green Lantern), Beast Boy (Plastic Man), Red Tornado (Aquaman), Blue Beetle (Batman), Jemm (Martian Manhunter), Starfire (Wonder Woman) and someone who specializes in teleportation [Sorry no one comes to mind] (Flash).
This team could back up the league as needed or even take on missions the league is too busy for —- and of course they'd fight from time to time.
