I very much support the idea of secret identities in comic books. It's just adds to the character, the story and the fun in my opinion.
Just look at  Batman, where he is currently portrayed as an urban legend.
 If so, who's to say anyone even has a picture of him. As for tracking the Batmobile, big deal — it keeps disappearing into the same mountainside, after that, the satellite eye-in-the-sky loses him. Also, who's to say the Batmobile and the Batwing don't have their own cloaking technology?
 Superman is another matter all together though. Maybe its because everyone thinks Superman is just Superman, and he doesn't have a secret identity or anything to hide. After all if anyone asks him what his real name is, he can just say "Kal-El".
